Yolanda "YOYO" Gibbs was born on September 18, 1978 to Brenda Lee Gibbs in Bronx, New York. She departed her earthly existence peacefully on March 13, 2021 at Sentara Careplex Hospital, Hampton, Virginia.
Yolanda was educated at Mattamuskeet High School in Hyde County, North Carolina where she graduated with honors. She went on to attend college at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She transferred to Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia after her sophomore year where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Yolanda continued her quest for knowledge and education by attending the University of Maryland University College where she graduated with a Master of Business Administration Degree in September 2013.
She leaves behind to cherish her luminary memories her loving, supportive, and doting father William (That's My Daddy) Spencer and her heart, her daughter Lilliane (Lili) Janine Gibbs-Spencer of Hampton, Virginia, three sisters, Veronica Gibbs of West Palm Beach, Florida, Sharon Gibbs of Washington, N.C., and Eleanor Gibbs of Grimesland, NC; one sister-in-law Lisa Gibbs of Lakeland, Florida and six brothers, Phonzie Gibbs of Windsor, N.C., Terrill Gibbs of Swanquarter, N.C., Darius Gibbs of Lakeland, Florida, Roosevelt Pickering of Bronx, N.Y., Antonio Gibbs of Harlem, N.Y., and Demetrius Gibbs of Bronx, N.Y., a god-sister, Shikara Hundley of Newport News, VA, and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm Thursday, March 25, 2021 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Saturday, March 27 in the funeral home chapel. Due to Covid restrictions attendance is limited but the service may be watched live on the R. Hayden Smith Facebook page.
Although God has blessed the family so nothing was needed or left out if you still want to do something to show your love and support, the family invites you to contribute to the Yolanda A. Gibbs and Lillian Janine Gibbs-Spencer Scholarship Fund established at Hampton University to aid and assist students who find themselves in needy situations.
