Obituary

Yelonda Darlene Rose Fish, age 68, of Hampton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Norfolk General Hospital.
She was born on July 29, 1957, at Langley Air Force Base and was a lifelong resident of Hampton, Virginia.

Darlene was known for her unconditional love and the bright light she brought to everyone she met. She had a deep love for arts and crafts, oldies music, and movies, and she shared these joys freely with those around her.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Darlene found her greatest happiness in spending time with her family and the people she loved most.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Scott Fish; her mother, Betty Cecelia Rose; her father, Ronald Vance Rose; her grandmother, Mary Louiza Bye; her aunt, Flossie Jane Hite; and her brother, Michael Delano Rose. She is survived by her children, Kristen Lee Powers and her husband Albert, and Kari Michelle Townsend and her husband Chris; her grandchildren, Leila Haley and her husband Brandon, Alexander Townsend, and Olivia Townsend; and her great-grandchildren, Carson Haley and Emory Haley. She is also survived by her sisters, Donna Haney and Cheryl Lane; her brothers, David Rose and Ronnie Rose and his wife Sharon; her longtime best friend, Sherry Kurtyka; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The family will hold a small gathering on Saturday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m. Please reach out to the family for further details.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

One of Darlene's most cherished traditions was singing her favorite lullaby—first to her granddaughter Leila, and later to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren:
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,
You make me happy when skies are gray.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away."

A message from her 8-year-old granddaughter, Olivia:
"I love Grandma so much because I loved her perfume and she was very nice. She was always there when I needed her, and I love her very much."
