Obituary

William Lee Woodmansee, 90, died Saturday, November 9, 2013. A native and lifelong Peninsula resident, he served in the US Navy from 1942-1945 and received a commendation for his service during the invasion at Normandy. He worked for the Hampton Police Department retiring as Captain of Detectives in 1977 after 25 years of service. In 1978 he was elected to Hampton City Council and was appointed Vice Mayor in 1980.

A Past Master of St. Tammany Lodge #5, AF & AM, he enjoyed playing golf and loved attending Hampton High School football games.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Gene Renn Woodmansee; two daughters, Beverly Bowen and her husband, Gene and Nancy Cox and her husband, Bob; four grandchildren, Belinda Holmes, Bobby Bowen, Lee Watson and Christian Cox; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vivian Collins and Linda Golberding.

A memorial service with Navy and Hampton Police honors will be conducted at 3:00pm on Sunday, November 17, 2013 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by Chaplain Don Neighbors. The family will receive friends from 2-3.
