William (Bill) Harry Tunstall, Jr., 75, passed away peacefully with members of his family by his side on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. A native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Bill came to the Peninsula in 1965 as a systems programmer analyst with Newport News Shipbuilding and ended his career in the same field with NASA.

Bill, an avid history buff, loved ACC sports, Washington Redskins, popcorn and ice cream, Smitty's Better Burger, and any activity involving his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Brooks Tunstall, son William Scott Tunstall (Dawn), daughter Catherine Tunstall Badgett (David), son Mark Brooks Tunstall (Jennifer), and five grandchildren; Matthew Allen Tunstall, Lauren Elizabeth Tunstall, Bryce Coleman Badgett, Madelyn Brooks Tunstall, and William Cooper Tunstall.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30pm on Friday, September 13, 2013 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A celebration of Bill's life will be conducted at 10:00am on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of Hampton by Dr. Cynthia Rosser-Higgins. A private interment will follow in Emporia, Virginia.
