William S. "Billy" Renn, 93, a lifelong Hamptonian, Coach, Teacher, and Father passed away after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

Billy is survived by his daughters, Kathy Renn, Laura Johnson, Susan Renn and Michaela McCracken and his grandchildren Wyatt Johnson, Elizabeth Petrin, and Isabelle Petrin.

Born and raised in Hampton, Virginia, Renn was a talented Hampton High School football player and the first paid lifeguard at Buckroe Beach. He continued his football legacy at Elon College on a full scholarship and later coached the sport for 9 years at Poquoson High School while teaching History, English, and Government.

Upon leaving Poquoson High School, Billy took a position as the Superintendent for Construction for the Hampton City Schools where he stayed until his retirement. After retiring, he frequently attended Hampton High School Crabbers football games.

Billy was a nature lover and remained active until his later years. His love of golf kept him playing until he turned 87. His love of music never faded, as he was seen toe tapping to Willie Nelson just days before his passing.

His love and dedication to his family was unsurpassable. He loved his daughters and grandchildren more than anything and they will always be grateful for that undying love.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Saturday, August 28, 2021, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton.  A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.
