IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill"
Miller Jr.
August 26, 1937 – August 21, 2022
William R. (Bill) Miller, Jr. passed away on August 21, 2022. Bill was born at home in Isle of Wight on August 26, 1937, to William and Nannie Melissa Brown Miller. He joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of seventeen and served ten years before returning to Virginia and making a home in Hampton. He was part of C&M Distributing with his dear friend Richard Cassell, then went on to work for Sealtest, Pet, and Marva Maid, where he eventually retired as Distribution Manager. Bill had an amazing work ethic and always led by example. He loved fishing and his one indulgence in life was his fishing boat, the Lazy Susan. Boat ownership led him to Back River Marina, where he forged friendships with like-minded people (beer drinkers with a fishing problem). He was a member of the Hampton Moose Lodge in Buckroe, where he made more life-long friends. He was a good-hearted man who will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; one sister; first wife, Sue; daughter, Michelle, and far too many other beloved family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; sons, Mike (Cathy) and Randy Mayfield (Dorothy); daughters, Kathy King (Matthew) and Nicole Horsley; grandchildren, Olivia Parks, Leilani Mayfield, Dylan, Brittany, and Amanda Horsley; four great-grandchildren; one amazing brother, Bobby (Peggy); and four sisters.
The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home from 6:30pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. A graveside service will be held at Hampton Memorial Gardens on Butler Farm Road, Hampton, at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 25, 2022. Rev. Larry Biermann will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Peninsula Food Bank at donate.hrfoodbank.org or to any other organization that works to help those that are food insecure.
