William E. "Bill" Lam, 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 after a fairly short battle with his heart. He served in the US Army for 11 years, part of which was during the Korean War, then went to work at Liebherr retiring after 37 years of service. A member of Victory Baptist Church, he was also a member of Monitor Lodge #197. Bill was a very loving, caring man who had a heart of gold. He always had a smile on his face and could cheer you up just by simply being with him for a few minutes. He loved to do for others. The most important thing to him was his family and friends. He loved cooking and trying new recipes, although we thought his own were the best. Preceded in death by his son, Tony Lam; survivors include his wife of 65 years, Gertrude; his son, Cody Lam and wife, Donna; his daughter, Penny Leviner and husband, Donald; grandchildren, Tiffney Hargrave and husband, Mike, Christy Scarborough and husband, David, Dawn Byers, Richard Quales and wife, Tracey, Kim Blackman and husband, Tony; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Taylor, Brendan, Haley, Collin, Ryan, Mackenzie, Dylan, Justin, Tony, Jr., and Rebecca; and a great-great-granddaughter, Audrey. The family will receive friends from 5-6pm Saturday, May 2, 2015 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home followed by a memorial service beginning at 6PM in the funeral home chapel. Memorials may be made to Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507.
