William Hopkins Guy, Jr., 97, died Friday, January 30, 2015. Born on October 27, 1917 to the late William H. Guy, Sr. and Bessie W. Guy, he resided in Hampton until his move to Suffolk in 2010. He graduated from Hampton High School, attended the College of William and Mary, and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as part of the 35th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron. After 42 years of federal government service, Bill retired from NASA Langley Research Center as the head of its photographic branch. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Hampton. Bill is survived by a son, William H. Guy, III and his wife, Ellen, of Piedmont, California; two daughters, Elizabeth I. Webster and her husband, John, of Suffolk, Virginia, and Mary G. Janney and her husband, Douglas, of Fredericksburg, Virginia; five grandchildren, Lauren E. Reed-Guy, Sarah J. Reed-Guy, Emily G. Janney, William D. Janney and Katherine C. Janney; a niece, Ann H. Suit, of Williamsburg, Virginia; and a nephew, William G. Hill, Sr., of Williamsburg, Virginia. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Jane S. Guy, a son, Samuel H. Guy, a son-in-law, Philip S. Inscoe, and his sister, Ann G. Hill. A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Monday, July 20 at St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery with the Rev. Candace Lynn Martin officiating.
