Obituary

William "Bill" Thomas Drummond, age 84 of Hampton, Virginia, went home to his heavenly rest on Friday, April 12th. Bill was born on October 31, 1939 and lived his entire life in Fox Hill. After graduating from Hampton High School in 1958 (the last class before the high school was rebuilt), he entered the apprentice school at NASA where he worked the next 39 years, first in the Experimental Metalworking Shop (a.k.a. The Fab Shop), and then later as a Quality Assurance Materials Analyst until his retirement.

Bill was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Fox Hill throughout his entire life serving in the Men's Club, as an usher, a trustee, and in any other way help was needed. He was an active member of the Fox Hill community fastpitch softball teams for approximately 25 years. Bill could always be found supporting the team either as a board member, during national tournaments across the country, or as a fan in the bleachers at the field behind Francis Asbury Elementary where he went to primary school. When he was not at work, church, or a sporting event, he was spending time outdoors either in his woodshop or raising vegetables in his half acre garden, the fruits of which he shared with anyone and everyone in his large community of friends and family. Later in life, Bill picked up his guitar again and learned to play bluegrass which branched into a passion that opened up a whole new community of friends with whom he loved picking and playing almost weekly in his home and at festivals all over.

Above all, Bill led his life with integrity and grace. His example of kindness, gentleness, and love was evident to those who were blessed to know him. He was always ready with a joke to make your day a little brighter and his laugh was so contagious it was impossible not to be happy when you heard it.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Thomas Drummond and Louise (Giddings) Hamilton Drummond. He is survived by his wife and greatest love of 50 years, Ann Gayle Drummond and his son Albert Thomas Drummond and his wife Katie and their four children, Josey, Teresa, Clara, and Augie.

There will be a memorial service and reception at First United Methodist Church of Fox Hill at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 27. A graveside service will be held at a later time at Clark Cemetery. Gifts can be made in honor of Bill to First United Methodist Church of Fox Hill or to the Clark Cemetery Association.
