Obituary

Wayne Hudgins, 90, passed away, on December 27, 2020. Wayne grew up in Newport News graduating from Newport News High School.  Soon after graduation he met his wife of 60 years and they became long term residents of Hampton.  Wayne had a very successful career as an Aerospace/Mechanical Engineer at NASA and Ft. Eustis and held engineering patents.  During the years of raising his five children he enjoyed wood working, fishing, hunting, camping, and volunteering as a coach for Little League Baseball. The family has many fond memories of all camping together with our pop-up camper and boat.  Once the children grew and Wayne retired at the age of 55, he and Ann built their retirement home in the mountains of Virginia and proceeded to travel the world together. Wayne and Ann kept their family close and created many loving traditions such as the annual gathering during Labor Day weekend in the mountains and the ultra-competitive croquet game.  Wayne will always be remembered as a loyal Husband, Father, Friend, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, NASA Engineer, Patent holder, Teacher of Engineers, Craftsman, Wood Worker, Stock Aficionado, Poker Champ, and Fritos with Sour Cream lover.  And so much more. He will be missed and loved by many forever.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann Holt Hudgins; parents, Karl and Ivin Hudgins, of Newport News; brothers Karl and Cleveland (Buddy); and son in laws Ted P. Blanks and John A. Pizzeck.

He is survived by his sons, Wayne (Rose)  Hudgins of Kill Devil Hill, N.C and Pat (Patty) Hudgins of Creswell, NC; and daughters, Cindy (Joe) Blanks-Shearin, of Prince George, VA., Marta Pizzeck-Brickhouse (Chad), of Chesapeake, VA, and Tootie Hudgins (Eric), of Kill Devil Hills, NC; and grandchildren, Justin Pizzeck (Whitney), Teddy Blanks (Molly), Carrie Blanks Cifers (Robbie), Christian Hill, Phoebe and Shelby Hudgins; and step grandchildren, Jessica S. Wilson (Taylor), Forrest Shearin (Kristina), Jonathan Shearin, Emma Robinson, Courtney Brickhouse; and great grandchildren Afton and River Pizzeck, Chloe Cifers, Jack Brickhouse-Lambert, Savannah and Lainey Wilson; sister-in-law, Sue Holt Kaiser; and several nieces and nephews.
