Wanda Jerz McErlean, 90, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2017. She was born in Somerset County, PA. She was a resident of Hampton for over 65 years. For most of her career she was an educational secretary for Hampton City Schools. She was a founding member and active parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hampton. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin A., Sr.; her sister, Sonya J. Polak; and her brother, Thaddeus J. Jerz. She is survived by her son, Edwin A. "Chip" McErlean, Jr. (Carol Anne) of Hampton; her daughter, Mary M. Davis (Harry) of Leesburg, VA; her twin sister, Stella Pawlick of Leona, NJ; her grandchildren, Genesis Sambuchi (Anthony), Jeffrey Richards, Zachary McErlean, Timothy McErlean, Emily Davis and Patrick Davis; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wants to thank the doctors, nurses, aides and therapists at Northampton Convalescent & Rehab Center, Sentara Hospice and her private caregivers for their compassionate care. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home 245 S. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 30 at 11:00 a.m. Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Dr., Hampton, VA. Burial will immediately follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N. Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Young at Heart Ministry of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Dr., Hampton, VA 23666 or Wythe Volunteer Fire Company, Station 3, 1430 Kecoughtan Rd, Hampton, Va 23661.
