Vollis Eugene Summerlin Sr, 81, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Born in Johnston County, NC he was a Peninsula resident for many years before moving to Omaha, Nebraska. He and his wife, Joanne Welstead Summerlin, recently returned to the Peninsula. Vollis served in the US Air Force, worked as a banker and most recently property management before retiring.

Mr. Summerlin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joanne Welstead Summerlin, children, Bonnie Adams and husband Ari, Gene Summerlin and wife Terri; grandchildren, Megan and Landon Luchtel, Trey and Sam Summerlin, Caitlin Summerlin, and Micah Summerlin; great-grandchildren, Laken and Lane Grace Luchtel. As the son of Joseph and Ethel Summerlin, he is also survived by his brothers. and sisters, Reba Hayes, Jack and Janice Summerlin, Ron and Marlene Summerlin, Verla and Jimmy Jones and Gail and Jay Gunter

His many other family members include, Wanda and John Burgamy, and Yvonne and Bernie Hodges, Joel Summerlin and family, Sherrie and Joe Bellmore and family, Barb and Charlie Lito and family, Scott Jones, David Jones, Tommy and Patrice Gunter and family, Tammy and Kevin Steller, Thomas and Michael Schmid, and Michelle Lubash.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 23, 2016 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home by father John Cox. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday prior to the service from 2-3 pm.
