HAMPTON, Vivian Routten Wilson, 95, a lifelong resident of Hampton, passed away at Sentara CarePlex on Tuesday, October 18 th .
Vivian grew up in Fox Hill and graduated from Hampton High School in 1938. She worked as a secretary for the Cummings Law Firm until the birth of her first son. Vivian was the widow of Kenneth (Kenny) F. Wilson, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Edward Routten, sister Betty Karasick, and brother, Edward Routten. She is survived by her two sons, both of Hampton, Kenneth F. Wilson, Jr. (Gwen) and Curl S. Wilson; two grandchildren, Kathryn Claeys (Ed) of Columbus, OH and Kenneth F. Wilson, II (Christina) of Hampton; and two great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Zachary Claeys.
Vivian was an avid bridge player and was a member of the ladies bridge group where she played at the Hampton Yacht Club for many years.
Vivian most of all loved her family. After moving to the Devonshire, she always looked forward to family night on Tuesdays and to Wednesday lunch at the Yacht Club where she was known by the staff and was greeted with a glass of wine and a few jokes.
Vivian had been in excellent health until this recent illness. She was proud that she was able to get around without a cane at 95. She was just shy of 96, being born on November 4 th , 1920.
Vivian will be missed by her family and a void has been created that only time can fill.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am, Monday, October 24, 2016 at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23669 on Sunday from 6-8 PM. Following the burial there will be a reception, details to follow.
