Vernon O. "Buddy" Smith, Jr., 72, died Saturday, July 26, 2014. A native and lifelong Hampton Roads resident, he retired from Fort Monroe in 2011 after 35 years of service. He was a very active member of Healing Waters Worship Center, had a fondness for horses, but loved being with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Linda R. Smith; his daughter, Adrienne Smith; his son, Aaron Smith and his wife, Jessica; and his grandchildren, Jillian and AJ. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00AM on Wednesday in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by Pastor William McCarty. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
