Verna Lytton Johnson ("Tib"), 88, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born on February 2, 1929 in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Tib was employed by Hampton City Schools for 25 years, serving as Office Secretary at Bryan, Merrimack, and Aberdeen elementary schools. Post-retirement, she enjoyed traveling to family events and spending time with her two granddaughters. Tib was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Smithfield.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Jack C. Johnson and by 7 of her 10 siblings. Tib is survived by her sisters, Letty Kitts and Edythe Vores. Additionally, she is survived by her daughter Susan Johnson, son David Johnson, and her grandchildren, Kayleigh and Bobbilyn Johnson. Tib is also survived by her former daughter-in-law, Tammy Johnson. Tib was soft-spoken and very much cherished these family members.

Tib was a loyal Virginia Tech football fan and she steadfastly held to the hope that the Redskins would one day earn another trip to the Super Bowl. She also enjoyed spending time with extended family and friends at the Lytton Reunions each year in Blacksburg.

The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 28, from 4:30 to 6:00. The funeral service will be held at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 29, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Dan Gray of Calvary Baptist Church, Smithfield, officiating. Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Tib's memory be made to Calvary Baptist Church's New Sanctuary Building Fund, The Hampton Association of Educational Office Professionals' (HAEOP) Scholarship Fund, or to a favorite charity.
