Trevoe Young Alston, 83, passed away peacefully with family by her side at her home on April 3, 2026, in the Fox Hill community of Hampton, Virginia, where she had lived for most of her life. Just like her first name, Trevoe was one of a kind.
Born in Hampton, Virginia, the eldest child of Tate and Jessie Young, at age 12, she moved with her family to the Fox Hill community, where she would grow up and ultimately live for the rest of her life. Fox Hill was not just where she lived—it was her community, her heritage, and her home for more than seven decades. She often spoke about the close-knit nature of Fox Hill and a time when life revolved around family, neighbors, and church, especially Sundays. Trevoe was a graduate of Hampton High School and worked as a secretary for a military officer at Fort Monroe. She also spent many years caring for elderly members of her community, reflecting her compassionate heart and her love for helping others. In her final year, that same love was returned to her as dear friends faithfully visited her at home.
She was a devoted and faithful member of Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church, where she served in many roles over the years. Her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life, and her church was an important part of her life and her family’s history in Fox Hill. Trevoe spent her life loving her family, serving her church, caring for others, and never hesitating to share her opinions or a good story. She loved life, loved people, and was known for her storytelling, lively charm, spunky sense of humor, and deep care for others.
Trevoe was preceded in death by her parents, Tate and Jessie Young; her brother, Tate Junior Young; and her first husband, Dennis Rowe, the father of her children. She is survived by her son, Keith Rowe and his wife, Laura, of Virginia Beach, and their children, Joshua and Austin; her daughter, Andrea Martin of Portsmouth and her daughter, Autumn; her great granddaughter Amelia, her stepson, Jamie Alston; her grandsons Alex, Leland & Gavin; her brother, Rev. John Young and his wife, Rev. Judy Young, of Seaford, Virginia; her sister-in-law, Melba Young of Sebring, Florida; her niece, Dr. Trina Young Greer and her husband, Steve Greer, of Seaford, Virginia; her nephew, Rev. Jake Young of Morehead City, North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday April 10, 2026, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A homegoing celebration will be held at 11:30 am on April 11, 2026, at Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
