Obituary

Thomasine J. Kashin, 78, died at home May 3.
A native of Greensburg, PA, she returned there for family events and high school reunions and remained an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thomasine came to Hampton in 1968 as a military wife and remained to be near the beaches and lighthouses she loved.

Thomasine's proudest accomplishment was her return to school in later life, earning an AA with highest honor from Thomas Nelson Community College and a BS with high honor from Old Dominion University. She was an adjunct faculty member at TNCC for ten years. She continued teaching at James City County government where she worked 16 years as Information Center Specialist and Trainer. She loved the people there and maintained relationships with several post-retirement. Thomasine started her work in computers at the age of 19 and was quick to say that she was an early adopter of the personal computer, the cell phone, and the smart phone.

Left to remember her are her much beloved children: Theresa of Hampton, Gregory (Nancy Jones) of Virginia Beach, Marc of Hampton, and Jeremy (Beverly) of Yorktown, and her precious grandchildren of whom she was very proud: Derek, Phillip, Ryan, Matthew, and Heather. Also remembering her are dear friends, Annette Butterworth, Anne Cronley, Ann Daiber, Gerry Jones, Carolyn Lionetti, Susan Lynch, and Kathy Nicoletta with whom she traveled and enjoyed weekly Friday meals for the last 20 years. Together they visited Myrtle Beach, Outer Banks, Tampa, and Rome, Italy. They also cruised the Caribbean.

Other long-time friends include Connie Cordial of Greensburg PA, Jackie DeBone of Birmingham AL, Jean Kuo of Laguna Woods Village CA, Joann Miller of Youngwood PA, Hilary Propst of Poquoson, Sonja Villaire of Melbourne FL, Brigitte White of Hampton, and Marilyn Woodall of Suffolk.

She also leaves behind cousins of the DelBrocco and Mastro families in PA, NY, and FL and many nieces and nephews of the DelBrocco, Mastro, and Kashin families.
The only child of Italian-born parents, Gabriel and Mary (Mastro) DelBrocco, she was proud of her ethnic heritage and belonged to Peninsula Italian-American Lodge #2145 where she served as Treasurer, Trustee, Guard, newsletter editor, and webmaster. She was the PIAL Member of the Year 2009. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hampton where, at various times, she served as Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council member, and Liturgical Reader.
