In Loving Memory of Thomas Anthony Mugler
April 17, 1945 – November 2, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Anthony Mugler, who went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Born on April 17, 1945, in Phoebus, Virginia, Thomas was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Christopher Guy Mugler and Louise Ware, and by his seven brothers and sisters, who now welcome him into eternal peace. He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in his devoted wife of 60 years, Patricia Mugler, and their two daughters, Lisa Wilson-Curry (Ronnie) and Jennifer Mugler (Steven). He was a proud grandfather to Nikki (Lee), Casey (Ken), Amie, Rusty (Ellie), and Luke, and a cherished great-grandfather to Autumn, Blake, Landon, Brennan, and Daniel.
A graduate of Hampton High School, Class of 1963, Thomas dedicated his life to protecting others. He began his journey in public service as a volunteer firefighter with the Phoebus Fire Station in his teenage years—a calling that became a lifelong career. After decades of faithful service, he retired from the Fort Monroe Fire Department in 1997, leaving behind not only a professional legacy but also countless lives touched by his courage, kindness, and integrity. Thomas was known for his deep love and his fascination with eagles, which he lovingly collected over the years. He also loved having his coffee on Saturday morning with his buddies.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Thomas's life at a Memorial Service on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. Following the service, a meal and time of fellowship will follow at Phoebus Restoration Church, 508 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, Virginia 23669 to honor his memory and the life he so fully lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Phoebus Restoration Church Benevolence Fund in Thomas's memory.
Thomas will forever be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for family, and his selfless service to his community. Though he has left this world, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
As the gates of Heaven opened wide, Thomas was welcomed home with open arms—his work on earth complete, his spirit soaring high on eagle's wings.
"Lift up your heads, O gates; and be lifted up, O everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in."
— Psalm 24:7
