August 6, 1956 – July 28, 2024
Thomas Jonathan Evans, 67 of Hampton, VA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 28, 2024. He was a lifelong resident of Hampton. Jonathan was the son of the late David Donald Evans of Wilkinsburg, PA, and Roberta James Evans of Hampton. He was the eldest of 3 siblings.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Robert Bruce Evans. Jonathan is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy Lori Evans; daughter, Victoria Paige Evans; son, Robert Christopher Evans; mother, Roberta James Evans; sister, Karen Nicely; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jonathan was a dedicated member of Boy Scout Troop 29, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a talented wrestler for Hampton High School, winning many tournaments before graduating in 1974. He continued his education at Old Dominion University.
Jonathan loved cars and began his automotive career in the early 1970s at Hop's Place. He later worked as the Parts Manager at Merrimac Motors in the mid-1980s. In the early 1990s, Jonathan joined the POMOCO dealership, managing the Chrysler Parts Department in Newport News, where he received numerous awards for his outstanding inventory management. Under his leadership, the department consistently earned the annual Chrysler Five Star Award for Excellence. His expertise also earned him Mopar and Chrysler trips to Las Vegas, Atlantis Paradise Island, and Cancun, which he enjoyed with his wife, Lori. Jonathan retired in 2016, after 44 years of dedicated customer service.
Jonathan was passionate about fishing on the Chesapeake Bay with his family and enjoyed upgrading his boat as his family grew. He was an excellent cook and grill master and dearly loved his family pets.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church, 514 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton, with a reception to follow.
