Teresa D. Matteson, 95, died January 6, 2018, the day St. Peter needed a bridge partner. Tess was born on August 11, 1922 in the Bronx, New York, the daughter of Salvatore and Giselda D'Agostini. She was preceded in death by a sister Rina and husband Marshall. She is survived by a daughter Tyla Matteson and her husband, Glen Besa of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by a son Guy "Matt" Matteson and his wife Ann of Hendersonville, NC, grandsons Tory Matteson of Broomfield, CO, wife Brittany and their daughter, Charlotte and grandson Adam Matteson of Shanghai, China. A military wife and resident of Hampton for 56 years, Tess never knew a stranger, loved the outdoors and continually volunteered her time and resources to protect local natural areas. She was the inspiration for the Matteson Trail, Hampton's three-mile fitness trail and was pleased that people could enjoy the hundreds of daffodils she planted. Tess was a lifelong learner, a generous supporter of local schools and colleges, a naturalist, an avid birder, an explorer, a cat lover, and a wellness fanatic, swimming daily well into her 90s.
