Sylvia R. "Joyce" Sweat Haselden passed away October 28, 2025. She was born on June 19, 1934, in Knightsville SC and was the youngest of 5 children with both brothers being ministers.

She accepted Christ at an early age and always volunteered to say the blessing for school lunches. As she grew, her faith in the Lord grew as well, often teaching and preaching the gospel during recess to any who would listen.

She was very proud to be chosen as the lead in her senior high school play, "Our Miss Brookes". Joyce loved to play the piano, a talent that served her well through the years as she taught lessons in her home, played both piano and organ at her church and spent many evenings with her family, playing and singing around the piano in the living room.

On February 20, 1954, she married the love of her life, John L. Haselden and remained married 61 years, until his passing in 2015.

Over the years she enjoyed sewing, quilting and mentoring countless young women many of whom lovingly called her "Mama Joyce."

An active member at Restoration Church in Hampton, she will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her, including, in later years, the entire staff at Food Lion on Nickerson.

Preceded in death by her husband, John L. Haselden; her son Jeffrey Haselden; her parents, Augustus and Senith Sweat; two sisters, Gertie Crawley and Beatrice Mackey; and two brothers, Lewis Sweat and Howard Sweat;  she is survived by her three daughters, Jill Sledge (Tim), Marcie Jordan (Lloyd) and Lori Dameron, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton.
