Susana Franz Spruill passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015 at her Hampton home. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas McKinley Spruill and son, David Kelly Spruill. Surviving her are her sons; William and his wife Sharon of Absecon, N.J., Mark and his wife Tina of Hampton, Steven and his wife Teresa of Hampton, daughter, Nancy of Newport News, and nephew, Charles Perrone of Jamesville, N.C., who was thought of as a son, grandchildren, Michael and his wife Jennifer of Brigantine Island, N.J., Sara Adams of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., Jeff and his wife Bekah Pennington, and their three sons, Quintin, Zachary, and Wesley, Jennifer Pennington of Newport News, and Rachel Johnson of Newport News, as well as her dog Gypsy. An Air Force wife, she lived in New Jersey, Alaska, and Florida before settling in Virginia, where she had lived for the past 47 years. A homemaker she was known for being a great baker and loved designing and sewing quilts and throws, which she often shared with others. She was known as the neighborhood grandma because she was so outgoing. She loved to laugh and would talk to anyone and everyone. She had a love for all kinds of animals and a knack for attracting birds to her yard, often calling herself Dr. Doolittle. A woman of great faith, she read her Bible every day and was a former member of West Hampton Baptist Church and later Bethel Baptist Church. She was never sick a day in her life believing in the power of the mind and God to keep you healthy, and stayed that way until she passed peacefully in her sleep. She will be missed by all who knew her, but we know we will see her again one day. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 4PM at R.
