Susan (Sue) Caroline Bunner Hess Davis was born on October 10, 1929, in Akron, Ohio. She passed away on December 16, 2023, at the age of 94. She grew up in West Virginia. Sue graduated from East Fairmont High School in Fairmont, West Virginia. She was living in Fairmont when she married James Davis (Jim) on July 22, 1962, and moved to Hampton, Virginia. Jim passed away in 2011 just months before their upcoming 50th wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her son Andy and her daughter-in-law Page Hess, her grandson Justice and his wife Bonni Hess, and her great grandson Conor Hess. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Judy Hohman of Fairmont, West Virginia.
Sue was a great mother to her son. She raised him with the help of her parents, Lawrence and Georgia Hohman until she married Jim and moved to Virginia. She supported herself and son by working at the Westinghouse Corporation in Fairmont, working on the 2nd shift. After moving to Virginia, she became a home maker. Sue was a full-time mother to her son. She became active in the Boy Scout program when Andy joined the Scouts. She made certain that she and Jim got Andy to the Scouting functions. While raising a family, Sue became a member of Parkview Baptist Church in 1972. She was a Sunday School teacher in the Children's department for over 30 years. When she retired from teaching Sunday School she was still active in the Women's Missionary Union. She was also on the Homebound Ministry which she chaired right up until covid-19 started.
The visitation and funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1PM to 2PM. The service will start at 2PM. There will be no graveside service. Burial will be private. R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home is located at 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia 23669. In lieu of flowers, Sue requests donations to the Building Fund at Parkview Baptist Church, 604 Hilton Blvd, Newport News, Virginia 23605.
