Stuart Randolph Hays (79), a retired lawyer, passed away June 17, 2014 at home in Williamsburg, VA surrounded by family. He was born September 9, 1934 to the late Mary L. Willett and the late William L. Hays in Cleveland, OH. He was also predeceased by his stepfather, John L. Willett and beloved grandfather, Dr. Winfred G. Leutner. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Janet Veech Hays; half-sister Elizabeth San Fillipo of Huntington Beach, CA; son, Stuart "Randy" Hays, Jr. (wife-Tonya) of Chesapeake, VA; daughter, Lorena "Leigh" Hays of Atlanta, GA; Step-children, Jennifer Kaye (husband-Rick) of Baltimore, MD; Jo-Deane Hays (husband-Jerry) of Goochland, VA; Jason Lunday of Reston, VA; grandchildren; Ashleigh and Conner Hays of Chesapeake, VA; Savannah Goetz (husband-Nathan) of Richmond, VA; Mackenzie Duffy of Goochland, VA); Christian and Lorena Smith of Seattle, WA. Stuart grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio. After high school he attended and graduated the College of William and Mary and its School of Law. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and during this time, he worked as a state park ranger. After graduating from law school he served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1964 he moved to Chesapeake, VA where he practiced law until 1990, when he became Commissioner in Chancery for the Circuit Court for the City of Chesapeake. Upon retirement in 1993, he moved to Shaker Heights, OH, where he was a member of The Rowfant Club of Cleveland. In 1998, following the death of his stepfather, he relocated to Williamsburg, VA.
