Steven "Steve" Eugene Harmon, 69, of Hampton, Virginia (formerly of Syracuse, NY) passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. The family is eternally grateful that Steve went to be with God peacefully, at home, surrounded by loved ones. He will be forever missed.

Following retirement, Steve enjoyed serving as a volunteer groundskeeper with his friends, who he considered extended family, at Oakland Cemetery; watching and attending NASCAR races; and hanging out with his loved ones, including his beloved canine and feline companions. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Base after 30+ years of service.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Joseph Harmon, and his mother, Phyllis Jean McCombs-Harmon. Steve is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Childress Harmon; his mother-in-law, Catherine Ruth Childress; and his stepdaughter, Allison Ruth Strickland, all of Hampton, VA.

The family will hold a private celebration of life in Hampton, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter, or by volunteering to help others.
