Stefania Y. Nisbet (92), peacefully passed on Thursday January 24, 2019. She was born in Rudka, Poland on October 15, 1926. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. With her Catholic faith, she courageously survived World War II.
After the war ended, she was put in a "Displaced Person Camp" in Germany. While there, she met a handsome airman, named Arthur Nisbet, with whom she was married to for 65 years. They settled in Hampton, Va. in 1964.
As a devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 55 years. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 511 Knight Cappers, the Nocturnal Adoration Society, the Holy Family Retreat League and the Confraternity of Mary Queen of All Hearts.
She was a kind and gentle person who loved her family dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, and her grandson, Jacob. She is survived by her sons Steve (Debbie), Edward (Carmen), David (Brenda), and Michael, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one more great-grandchild on the way.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5PM-6:30PM and will celebrate a Christian Wake Service and Holy Rosary from 6:30-7PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., Hampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 512 Buckroe Ave., Hampton, Va., by Rev. Monsignor Walter Barrett and Rev. Eric Anokye. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens followed by a reception at St. Joseph Cordier Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Food Pantry, 512 Buckroe Ave., Hampton, Va. 23664.
