Obituary

POQUOSON - Stanley T. Skora, 71, claimed his eternal reward August 2. He now joins his father, Stanley J. Skora and mother Beverly J. Skora in preparing a home in heaven for his earthly family and friends.

Born in Detroit, MI, on January 24, 1945, Stan enjoyed a fruitful and fulfilled life. Known for his golden brown eyes and quick wit, he always had a story to tell. A gifted salesman, his opportunities carried the family from Michigan to Canton, Ohio, to Charleston, SC, and finally to Virginia, where, after over 40 years here, he became the consummate Virginia gentleman.

After a stint in the U.S. Air Force as a medic, Stan worked in the medical, security and automotive fields, retiring as corporate lease manager for the Casey Auto Group and later for Freedom Ford. Family, however, was always his first priority.

Stan cherished his two daughters. Emily, the family communicator, inherited his business acumen and, like her dad, has never met a stranger. Betsy, also following in her father's footsteps, is a skilled negotiator adept at offering a win-win situation whether on the athletic field or in the courtroom.

A gourmet cook, Stan had for years amazed family and friends alike. Whether hosting hundreds of dinners at home, barbeques on the deck, tailgate parties at UVA or breakfast for students the following morning, his menus were highly acclaimed.

Stan married his soul mate and best friend Marny on June 22, 1968, after which they were rarely apart. Over the past decade, Stan suffered and courageously endured a number of medical challenges and Marny proudly served as his caregiver. Their 48 years together provided memories that will serve as her source of comfort. Mourning his loss are his immediate family: Emily and Eddie Barker and their children Aspen Doss and spouse Zack and John Barker; Betsy and Bill Davis and their daughters Megan, Grace and Ella, and his great granddaughter Audrey Doss. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers and their spouses Robert and Rita, Bill and Debbie, and James, and his sisters Nancy Ramsey and Mary Skora.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 PM Saturday, Aug. 6, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Newport News. Immediately following at 1:30, a funeral mass will be celebrated by Reverend Edwin Montanez and Deacon Dan Johnson.

The family offers sincere thanks to his advocate Dr. Richard T. Stravitz, his transplant coordinator Nanette, and all the exceptional professionals at MCV Hospital. We are especially grateful to his anonymous organ donor who gave our family an additional eight years with our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. The family wishes, in lieu of flowers, to please consider being an organ donor in Stan's memory. Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton, 757-723-3191, berceusefuneralhome.com.
