Obituary

HAMPTON - CMSgt (Ret) Stanley A. Humphrey, 79, stood his final roll call on Wednesday, February 3, 2016. A native of Massachusetts, he was a resident of Hampton since 1975. Chief Humphrey retired from the US Air Force as a Chief master Sergeant of Security Police in 1978 and from the Hampton Sheriff's Department as a Major (Chief Deputy) in 1992. He was also associated with the Hampton Roads Regional Academy of Criminal Justice as an instructor, professional consultant and Acting Director of Operations, 1992-1996. After retirement, he continued to serve the Hampton Sheriff's Office in a volunteer capacity until 2000. Chief Humphrey held a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology and an Associate's Degree in Police Science from St. Leo University, FL. Of his military and police career, it can be said he was a good soldier and a good cop; loyal, professional and dedicated. He sacrificed much for the country he loved. Chief Humphrey was preceded in death by the one, true love of his life, his beloved wife Trudy; His family is comforted by the knowledge that his broken heart is now healed as he once again is with his "Hon." He was also preceded in death by his brother Fred. Surviving are his sons, Shane Humphrey of Allentown, PA, Kevin Humphrey and his wife Shirley of Newport News and Scott Humphrey of Hampton. The love and pride he had for his sons was endless. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Andrew and wife Sara, Auriel and her husband Chase and Kathleen; and two great-grandchildren, Kurt, Liam, Kiely, Brody, Evie and Oliver. As with his sons, his love for them was endless. Also his sister, Barbara and her husband Fred of Brownfield, ME; sister-in-law Bernice Glenn of lake City, FL, Stephanie Rackley and Elfie Tavares of Makawao, HI and brother-in-law Pat Tavares of Auburn, CA. At his request, there will not be a memorial service. A private interment with full military honors, will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In his memory, the family suggests that donations be made to the charities supporting the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, PO Box 2156 Norfolk, VA 23507.
