Stanley Becouvarakis died Tuesday, December 24, 2013. A Hampton native, he was a lifelong Peninsula resident and veteran of the Korean conflict. He graduated from Hampton High School, Otterbein University in Ohio, and then received his Masters from the College of William and Mary. Mr. "B" worked 30 years in the Hampton City Schools first as a teacher and coach at George Wythe Junior High, then Assistant Principal of Hampton High School. He was the first Principal of the new Eaton Middle School. After retiring he spent many hours volunteering at the Hampton VA Medical Center. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Newport News.
Mr. B was preceded in death by his daughter Cathy Mode, her husband Mike and grandson Zach. He is survived by his wife Pat Becouvarakis; daughter, Laurie Rodgers and husband Farris; son, Greg Becouvarakis and wife Tina; brother, John Becouvarakis; grandchildren, Christy Mode, Michael Mode, Stephanie Mode, Jeremy Mode, Zachary Becouvarakis and Mills Becouvarakis; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 PM, Sunday, December 29, 2013 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton by Dr. Cynthia Rosser-Higgins. The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 1-2 PM.
