Sonja Lee Eaton, 69, died Thursday, December 4, 2014. Born in Portsmouth, Sonja graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and Old Dominion University. She worked many years as a manager for Gordon Jewelry stores in several locations. Sonja finally retired as a customer service representative with First Advantage Federal Credit Union. Sonja was a talented photographer and loved music of every kind. She was a past president of Chapter B, Virginia PEO. She was an active member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Newport News serving in the adult choir, the Philoptochos Society, and the Daughters of Penelope. She also volunteered in the church book store and at many Greek festivals. Sonja is was preceded in death by her father, Arnold Raymond Eaton and is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Gilliam Eaton; brother, Raymond Eaton (Yvonne) of Elizabeth City, NC; nieces, Cindy Pyle of Elizabeth City, NC, Debbie Reily (Shane) of Coronado, CA; nephew Arnold Eaton of Myrtle Beach, SC; and several great nieces and great nephews. She is also survived by godmother, Maria V. Mitchum and godson, Adam Birnbaum; long time special friends, RaNetta Mitchum, Jack and Bettyrene Pope, and Ronda E. Smith. A Trisagion service will be conducted at 7:00 PM, Sunday at the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church with a visitation afterwards. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 8, 2014 at the church by Rev. George Chioros with interment to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
