Obituary

Silas "Chico" Pacheco, 86, died Friday, December 27, 2013. A native of Taos, New Mexico, the bells were tolled 24 hours after Silas' death at the Brethren Church. He had been a Hampton resident since 1968. After retirement from the US Air Force with 22 years of service, he worked for 16 more years at the Newport News Shipyard. Silas had been a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church since 1991. He was a handyman and a great mechanic who loved to play the harmonica and the guitar. A frequent visitor at The Big Horn, Marty's and Josh's in Buckroe, he enjoyed shooting pool, and loved walking and fishing at Buckroe Beach with his dog Sheba.

Preceded in death by his brothers, Eliu and Florencio; survivors include his wife, Velma; five children, Adelina, Elizabeth, Terry, Jon, and Larkin; five siblings, Josephine "Sima", Juanita, Theresa, Anna, and Kayo; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 2, 2014 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by Rev. Rhonda Wheeler.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans,P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 in memory of Silas Pacheco.
