Shirley Kendrick Johnson, 71, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023, with her husband by her side.  She was born in St. Augustine, Florida to parents Paul and Betty Anne Kendrick.  Shirley married the love of her life, Wayne Lee Johnson on September 13, 1969, and they spent 53 years together traveling the world as a Navy family before settling in Hampton in 2000.  Shirley was a devout Christian, a devoted caregiver by nature, especially to her grandchildren.  She enjoyed genealogy, ceramics, crafting, scrapbooking, and selling Tupperware in her younger years.   Shirley was an amazing cook and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents Paul A. Kendrick and Betty Anne Meyers Kendrick.  Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Wayne Johnson; sons, Paul Wesley Johnson (Deborah Watts) and David Wayne Johnson (Ellen); sister, Barbara Boden (Larry); brother, Peter D. Kendrick (Geri); grandchildren, Anne Pierce (Myreon), Felicia Romero (Hugo), Hayley Johnson, Betheny Johnson, and Cloe Johnson; great-grandchildren, Kendra Pierce, Delilah Pierce, Charlotte Pierce, Joshua Ortega-Romero, Mihai Romero and Natalia Romero; as well and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A viewing will be conducted from 12 pm- 1pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, downtown Hampton. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM at Healing Waters Worship Center in Carrollton, VA with a reception to follow.
