Shirley Hancock, 85, passed away Tuesday the 5th of July after a brief illness. Born in Coleman Falls VA, Shirley was a homemaker for her beloved husband, Charles W. Hancock who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her loving parents Essex and Elsie Thomas, brother Steven Thomas, and son Melvin Ray Hancock.
Shirley was a lifelong Kool-Aid mom to a host of neighborhood kids from various generations as well as an avid poker and bingo player. She was a 50-year member of the Women of the Moose.
Shirley's tremendous strength and unbreakable spirit are the legacy she leaves to her surviving family; her brother Ryland Thomas, sisters Faye Sands and Joyce Turner, sons Steven Mark Hancock (wife Sue), John Sherman Hancock and Thomas Wayne Hancock (wife Julie), her grandsons Ryan Hancock (wife Jessica), James Hancock, Charles Ian Hancock, Jeremy E. Hancock, Benjamin C. Hancock, and Hunter Hancock, her granddaughters Natasha Klomp (husband Andrew) and Miranda Hancock, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The family is welcoming friends for visitation at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 South Armistead Ave, Hampton VA from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM on Sunday July 10, 2022. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the funeral home on Monday July 11, 2022 at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton VA and a reception at Christ United Methodist Church, 133 Deep Creek Rd, Newport News VA.
