Obituary

Shirley Ann Whitefield Castelloe left this world on November 5, 2015 to go and brighten heaven's door with her beautiful smile. In her final hours, she was surrounded by her family and loved ones; and then our Nana said goodbye to this world and claimed her eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Shirley was born in Durham, North Carolina on December 22, 1935. She was the precious daughter of the late Elliott Whitefield and Edna B. Clark. After spending her childhood in Durham, Shirley and her family moved to Hampton, Virginia during her teenage years. Shirley met the love of her life, John T. Castelloe (JT) in 1954 and married him on February 27, 1955. JT and Shirley spent the next sixty years, eight months, and seven days completely and totally devoted to and in love with one another. Shirley worked at the Hampton Public Library for many years and made many good friends. Shirley was also a faithful member of Buckroe Baptist Church for sixty one years and was a member of Nellie Cross' Sunday School class. Shirley is survived by her devoted and beloved husband, JT Castelloe and two daughters, Deborah Gupton and Kathleen Lassiter and son-in-law Rick Lassiter. Nana also left an everlasting mark on her loving and completely adoring grandchildren Ashley Gupton, Kyle Gupton, Devin Lassiter and his wife Melanie Lassiter, and Kacie Lassiter. Shirley is also survived by her brother Charles Gary Clark and his wife Cheryl and a great many nieces and nephews. Shirley also leaves behind an honorary daughter, Kathy Blevins Forrest and honorary granddaughter Ashley Stocks. To say that our Nana was loved does not even come close to explaining how much she meant to her family and loved ones. She will be missed every minute of every day until she greets each one of us at heaven's door. The visitation and funeral will both be held at Buckroe Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia on Saturday November 14, 2015. The family will receive friends from 12pm to 1pm, followed by the homecoming celebration at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would like for you to consider making a donation to the Buckroe Baptist Church. Thank you so much for all of the love and prayers that have come our way. We truly appreciate each and every one of you.
