With profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved sister and aunt, Sherrie Darlene Cox, on December 4, 2021 in Hampton, Virginia.
Sherrie was born May 14, 1963 to Estille Wayne Cox, Sr. and Mildred Richards Cox in Newport News, Virginia. Born with cerebral palsy, it was apparent from birth Sherrie was an angel that touched countless lives, had the most beautiful smile and loved her family fiercely. Sherrie graduated from Hampton City Schools.
Sherrie was affectionately known as "Sis" to her family and friends. She loved Buckroe Beach, Anna's Italian Restaurant in Buckroe and shopping with her family at Buckroe Shopping Center and Kmart. Sherrie especially loved her teddy bears, stuffed animals, enormous doll collection and Christmas.
Preceded in death by her parents, her brother Estille Wayne Cox, Jr. and his wife Travis Ann, her brother Jerry Allen Cox and her brother-in-law, James Berkley Hasson; Sherrie is survived by her sisters, Bettye Hasson of Hampton, Virginia and Marilyn Johnson and John of Jacksonville, Florida; her brothers, Larry Cox and Barbara of Colleyville, Texas, and Jonathon Cox of Hampton, Virginia. She is also survived by nieces, Shannon Carbone and James, Jeanette (Jenny) Rhodes and Dusty, Kelly Morris and Ed, Crystal Piel, Thomas (TJ) Reinshagen, Sarah Armstrong and DeNeal Johnson, Jessie Lloyd and Shaun, and Marisa Cox; nephews, Don Hasson and Annie, Chris Hasson and Rachel, Dan Hasson and Samantha; great nieces and nephews, Michael, Cynthia, James, Thomas, Sean, Reese, Corey, Breyana, Myra, Lily, Arianna, Mason and Axel; as well as special family friends, Kay Free and Patricia Piel.
Sherrie had many wonderful caregivers over the years beyond her family and the family appreciates every one that showed her love.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, December 11, 2021, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, and officiated by the Reverend Charles Winner of Central United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
