Sara B. Hunt, 82, died Thursday, December 14, 2023. A longtime Hampton resident, she worked for many years for the Civil Service at Fort Monroe then went to work for the state, retiring as Office Supervisor in the Parole and Probation office in Hampton in 2016 after 23 years of service. She took several courses at Thomas Nelson Community College to assist her in her career.

Sara loved to have a good time and to laugh. She enjoyed dances at the Elks Lodge, being outside gardening and working in the yard, boating, and supporting her husband, Tommy by attending antique car shows with him. Anyone who knew Sara knew that she was passionate about animals. She had a special way with them and was even able to attract undomesticated animals because they felt safe around her.

Preceded in death by her parents, Adolphus and Viola Blair, her brother-in-law, Robert L. "Bob" Hunt, and her sister-in-law, Annette Hunt; Sara is survived by her husband, Tommy Hunt; her daughter, Robin Deyton and husband, John of South Carolina; her granddaughters, Allie and Rockie Deyton of Alabama; her brother, Adolphus Blair, Jr. and wife, Johnny of Williamsburg and their sons, John and Ben Blair; a great-nephew, Russell Blair; her niece, Abigail Bornstein and husband, David and their son, Elijah Bornstein; and her sister-in-law, Edith Hunt and her children, Keith Knight and Katherine Glass.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Sara's caregivers who were a godsend during her illness, Brenda Kincaid, Pam Muza, and Jesse Kincaid.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel.
