IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra Mae
Markley
May 4, 1944 – March 6, 2021
Sandra Mae Markley, 76, widow of George E. Markley, Jr. passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Born in Baltimore, MD, raised in West Virginia, she had been a resident of Hampton since 1980. She worked and was adored by customers and staff, as a waitress at Sammy and Nicks Restaurant(s).
Sandra was also preceded in death by her sons, Donnie and David Markley; sister, Sherry Perry; brothers, Charles Stalnaker, Dwayne Stalnaker, Jerry Stalnaker and Billy Stalnaker. She is survived by her daughter Jodi Moreno, son-in-law Carl; grandchildren, Cory Moreno and Amanda Barney, grandson-in-law Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Brooke Barney and Lucas Barney; sisters, Sheila Weiland and Shelby Stalnaker; and many loved sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends she considered family.
Sandra (aka: Mae-Day) Markley, also affectionately known as, Grandma Fat Cat (duly due to having a pet Fat Cat) was a constant pure joy and laughter. Her love for her family, friends, and pets was beyond imaginable. She would communicate with her loved ones every day no matter how far away they were; and her angelic West-Virginian-twang-voice would comfort all. She was also known for being on the minute when the grandchildren would challenge her to a race, a cartwheel or one of those, 'just do it' moments. Even when she knew she was about to be the brunt of a prank, she'd do it to make us laugh (and more than likely, to fulfill her curiosity). She had so much love and grace, that even casual and/or life long friends and telemarketers wanted her to be a part of their lives by calling her 'Mom' or 'Grandma Fat Cat' as well. Grandma Fat Cat left us with so many beautiful, funny and crazy stories that will live forever, as well as on YouTube: ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVlROLEW0FU ) and we will miss her like no tomorrow.
The family requests any memorial contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society, https://donate3.cancer.org/
