Obituary

Samuel Rymer, 90, of Hampton, passed away at home on April 29, 2024.  He was preceded in death by wife, Lena; son, Bobby; his parents, brothers, and sisters.  He is survived by daughter, Theresa (Bobby); son, Stanley (Debbie); granddaughter, Whitney (Joel); grandson, Travis (Tiffany); granddaughter, Katherine; and grandson, Matthew; as well as seven great-grandchildren.

Sam had 32 years of service and retired as a lieutenant in the Fire Department at Newport News Shipbuilding.  He took an early retirement to spend time with his grandchildren, and to go on lots of trips with his family and friends.  He loved eating out with numerous friends.  Sam enjoyed his 40 years as a member of Fordham Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and treasurer.  After losing Lena, he constantly visited the girls at "You're Someone Special" who he loved and they spoiled him.  He was a sports lover, especially coaching his sons in baseball, and then went on to watch his grandchildren play their sports.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12 PM on Friday, May 3, 2024, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 11-12 pm.  Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sam's memory to your favorite charity.
