IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Samuel T.
Bridgman
December 13, 1952 – January 28, 2023
Samuel T. Bridgman, 70, of Newport News, VA passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Sammy was born in Hampton, Va to the late Edsel Frederick and Rosalie Silverthorne Bridgman. He joyfully retired as a Senior Foreman for the Hampton Public works department in 2008 after 36 meaningful years of service. He was a faithful member of Northside Christian church for over 50 years where he served as an elder, teacher and in many other capacities. Sammy was a humble man of many talents. A proficient guitarist and singer, he played often even writing and recording songs for his grandkids as well as performing at weddings and funerals. He spent countless days section hiking much of the Appalachian trail but his favorite hobby was the game of golf. He enjoyed the challenge of the sport but relished in the comradery of his friends. Sammy also liked to travel whether it be a Beatles pilgrimage to the UK or a drive down Route 66. He was quick to take the road less traveled on his journeys, often finding ways to visit family and friends. Sammy loved his people and was always willing to lend a helpful hand or an encouraging word.
The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Weiner and his Riverside hospice care team, notably Dr. Theresa McConaughy and nurse Debbie Boyd for their compassionate care and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edsel and Rosalie Bridgman. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Bridgman; his daughters Marcie Emenheiser (Stew) and Summer Bryant (Logan) and his grandchildren, Tenley, Brooks and Saylor Emenheiser and Bailey Rose and Brody Bryant; two brothers Haywood Bridgman (Karon) and Larry Bridgman (Sandy); nieces, nephews, many cousins and countless friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Northside Christian Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Northside Christian Church, Yorktown, VA.
