Obituary

Salvatore (Sam) Rosso, Jr. went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2018 at the age of 92. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 50 years Catherine Holland Rosso and his infant son Roger. He is survived by his daughters Cynthia Rosso Baird (Holcombe) and Freda J. Rosso.
Sam grew up in Hampton and served in the Army during WW II. After leaving the Army he took a job at Langley AFB as a steam plant operator and began praying for a Godly wife. He finally met the love of his life Catherine after seven years of prayer and they were married in 1957. This was the only recorded instance of Sam being patient. Although he wasn't patient, he was long suffering and spent countless hours hauling Girl Scouts around in his treasured 1965 Rambler Ambassador and made numerous trips back and forth to VA Tech helping his daughters move when they were in college. Sam worked at Langley AFB for 51 years. He loved to watch the F15s fly and in 1994 he was granted the thrill of a lifetime when he was given a ride in an F-15. He was an avid flounder fisherman and deer hunter and a member of Laf-A-Lot Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church and served as a deacon. Even when he was well into his 80s he still visited the "old folks" in the nursing homes. Sam loved the Lord, his wife and his two daughters. We know he was greeted at the gates of Glory by all the Saints gone before him. We hope he doesn't complain that the streets of gold are too bright, his robe is too scratchy or that his Wendy's hamburger has cheese on it. Sam was a rascal and even when his mind succumbed to dementia he still flirted with the ladies. His family is forever grateful for the love and care shown to him by the wonderful caregivers at Trinity Assisted Living, Dominion Village in Williamburg and At Home Care Hospice.
