Sally Bennett Dorton, 85, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. She was born on July 13, 1929 in Sandy Level , VA to Crispen and Mary Louise Bennett, later moving to Crewe, VA. She was a Peninsula resident for most of her life and worked as a school bus driver for the City of Newport News for 35 years. Sally, also known as "Kinkie", is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Beverly and Eddie Forbes and Melissa and Steve Butler, two granddaughters, Megan Speth and her husband Stuart and Natalie Forbes, and two grandsons, Reid and Griffin Butler. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Stone Bennett, Chapman Bennett, and James Bennett, and is survived by one sister, Marie Jones and three brothers, Paul Bennett, George Bennett, and Harold Bennett. In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who she called her "babies". Making sure everyone was well fed and had a drink before they left her house was one of her top priorities in life, as she was always concerned about others. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 15, from 6:00 - 7:30 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 16, at 2:00 pm at Stevens Memorial Baptist Church, Newport News, VA. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 17, at 2:00 pm at Wards Chapel Cemetery, Crewe, VA. The Reverend Dr. Jay Russ will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Boy Scout Troop #123, 207 Simmons Drive, Seaford, VA 23696. These organizations were important to her grandchildren, so they were important to her.
