Ruth McCargo Phillips was born to the late Burse and Katie Howard McCargo. She was the pride and joy of her parents and the only child.

She attended the Newport News Public School System. Ruth had several jobs around the city which included employment at Nachmans Department Store.

When Ruth was 34 years of age, she migrated to Washington, DC where she worked for several years. She retired from D.C. General Hospital as a Switch Board Operator.

Ruth was affiliated with the Salvation Army. She was instrumental in serving the elderly and many others in need. She gave unselfish and joyful service to the church for over 30 years.

Ruth leaves behind five sons and two daughters, two son-in-laws, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.

Ruth is  now asleep and waiting on the return of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We look forward to the day when death will be no more and we, if faithful, will be reunited with Ruth. Until that day, may we rest in the promise of His soon coming.
