Ruth Russell Manus, 89 completed her earthly mission on January 9, 2015. Born in Pasquotank Co, NC, she spent most of her adult life in the Hampton Roads area. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Thomas G. Manus Sr. and grandson, Sgt. Jeffrey A Reed. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Manus Reed and husband Mark; son, Thomas G. Manus, Jr. and wife Margie; son, Robert L. Manus and wife Jenny. She leaves behind five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She retired as the Chief Deputy to the Commissioner of the Revenue for the City of Hampton. After retirement, Ruth began volunteering with Women of the Moose, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Naturally nurturing, she was the backbone of her family and always had a smile for everyone. We are sure she is dancing through heaven greeting old friends and new. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service from 1-2 PM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Jeffrey A.
