Ruth Ann Fiocca, 90, died Sunday, December 25, 2022. Born in New Haven, CT, her husband's military career landed her in Hampton where she remained for the rest of her life. Forty-seven years ago, Ruth found sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous. She embraced the program, appreciated all she gained in it and was also a sponsor and support to countless others through the years. Ruth had many friends in the program whom she truly cherished.

Ruth had an amazing and witty sense of humor and always saw the best in people. She found great delight connecting with others in both big and small ways. Hers was a great example of a life lead by gratitude and positivity. She was a joy to know.

Her greatest love was spending time with her family at the beach in Southern Shores. She treasured being on the beach, gathering sea glass and shells, and walking with her grandkids and dog to the turtle pond.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Fiocca and her long-time love, Dave Shuler.  Survivors include her son, James Fiocca; her former daughter-in-law, Jeanne Fiocca; her two granddaughters, Brittany (Spencer) Cresswell and Christina (Kevin) Atkinson; her three grandsons, James, Eddie, and Andrew Fiocca; two great-grandchildren Dominic and Caroline; her brothers, Robert J. Clawson and David Clawson; and her beloved Chihuahua, Bambi.

The family would like to thank Marsha and Karol for being incredibly caring neighbors, Debbie Boykin for her loving companionship to Ruth during the last few years, and the staff at Regency Healthcare for their care of her over this past year.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Friday, December 30, 2022 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel.
