Ruth Elinor Burgess, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 18, 2015. Born in Dillon, SC she had been a resident of Hampton and member of Liberty Baptist Church since 1952. The youngest of 9 children, she was preceded in death by her parents, John T and Maggie Bryant Gough; her sisters, Oviedo Gibbs, Vera Herring, Bea Huggins and Ruby Snipes; brothers, Roy, John, LH, and Marion Gough; and ex-husband, Philip Burgess. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Susan Burgess Saxon Bloom and husband Damon of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; grandchildren, Kisha Saxon Godfrey and husband Charles, of Shaw AFB, SC, Jeremy Bloom and wife Rachael, and Kendall Bloom and wife Cathy; both of FWB, FL; fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 pm Friday, June 26, 2015 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton.
