Ruby Jane Rector, 96, went to be with the lord, Friday, May 1, 2015. She was a native of Canton, NC and lived in Hampton, VA for 72 years. She was the daughter of the late William Winfield and Della Bolden Christopher. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Rector and her stepfather, Glen H. Christopher, three daughters, Joann Jones, Barbara Jean Rector, and Carolyn Dean, 3 grandchildren, sister Pearl Hall, and brother, Clarence Christopher. She is survived by son, Tommy Rector (Carole) of Hampton; daughter, Ernestine Deuell (Tommy) of Richmond, and sister, Joan McCormick of Hampton; 12 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 22 great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Ruby was a member of Langley Baptist Church. She retired from Asheville Mica Company after working there for 47 years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Langley Baptist Church in Hampton with the Rev. David Pace officiating. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Langley Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
