Ruby Lester Bailey, 88, died Thursday, November 29, 2018. Born in Hurley, VA, she had been a Hampton resident for the last 60 years. She taught at many of the Hampton Schools for 40 years but spent the last 28 at Phillips Elementary from which she retired in 1989 in order to babysit her grandson. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening and spent many weekends during the summer months fishing and was a very lucky angler. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by her grandson Phillip Eric Brewer; survivors include her husband, Ken Bailey; her daughter, Teresa A. Bailey; her grandson, Matthew Brewer; three great-grandchildren, Isabella Brewer, Alexandria Brewer, and Noah Aleshire; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 3, 2018 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-5 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
