Roy Thomas Austin, 81, of Hampton, passed away unexpectedly at home on August 15. He is survived by his wife, Jane Dennard, their children, Tommy (Karen) Austin of Nags Head; David (Marcia) Austin of Hampton; David Martin (Julia Battaglini) of Richmond; Jennifer Burgart of Rancho Santo Margarita, CA; Kacie (Matt) Steinmetz of Virginia Beach and nine grandchildren...Lindsay, Julie, Tyler, Bobbie, TJ (Katie), Devin, Nora, Isabelle, Trevor; one great grandchild, Jaxon, and his brother-in-law, Jack Dennard.  Roy was pre-deceased by his parents, William Carroll and Mary Alice Rose Austin of Suffolk, VA; survived by one sister, Marianne DeHart of Burke, VA and pre-deceased by two brothers and two sisters, William, Pauline, Richard, Evelyn.

Roy was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Hampton City School system.  He was an active member of Hampton Baptist Church for thirty years where he dedicated many hours to the Premises Committee, and a 37-year member of the Wythe Exchange Club.  He enjoyed woodworking and volunteered with the local chapter of the non-profit organization, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, which was chartered by his son, David, building and delivering beds to children who need them.

A celebration of life will be held at Hampton Baptist Church on Sunday, September 4 at 2:00pm with a reception immediately following in the church fellowship hall.  Donations may be made in his memory to Hampton Baptist Church or Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
