Obituary

Robert F. Urbano died June 24, 2026. He was born in Rumford Maine to Angelo J. Urbano and Margaret M. Chisholm (the second oldest of six children). Robert spent most of his early life in Portland, Maine graduating from Deering High School in 1948. He entered the US Army after high school and retired as a Sergeant Major after 26 years of service. Robert received numerous medals, awards, and commendations for consistent, outstanding service, and performance including the: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with one Silver and One Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ 60 device, United Nations Service Medal, and many others. While on assignment in Orlando, Florida, he met and married the love of his life Betty S. Wilkins. They were wed on June 14, 1952 and were married for 52 years. After his military career, he retired in Hampton, VA and worked for Gambro Dialysis Company as the head of the company’s shipping and receiving department.

Robert was an avid, outstanding golfer, loved seafood especially Maine lobster, and was a longtime fan of all New England Sports teams. He was generous, respectful and outgoing, always expressing concern and support for others. He was an active member of the YMCA Health and Wellness Center in Hampton until recently. There he developed a close group of friends and coffee buddies. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since 1965.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue and son, Anthony Joseph. He is survived by his daughter Katherine Jenkins and son Vincent Urbano; grandchildren, Robert and Amanda Jenkins, Brian Urbano, Rebecca Berg, and Angela Woods; great-grandchildren, Noah and Lily Urbano and Jayden Walker; sisters, Margaret Bennett and Patricia Tanguay of Maine.

The family will receive friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hampton on Wednesday July 1 from 9-10AM. A funeral mass will begin at 10AM and then Robert will be laid to rest with full military honors at Hampton Memorial Gardens following immediately after mass. Following the interment the family will gather to celebrate Robert’s life and share stories at “The Spot 757” Event Venue, 501 Wythe Creek Rd. Suite 102, Poquoson, VA.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the church Food Pantry.
