Known to all as Bob, he was the second of four children born to the late Charles and Vera Sigler. He was a life-long resident of Hampton and lived the last thirty years on the Mill Creek property where he grew up. On Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at age 71 he died at his home where so many cherished memories were made.
He retired in 2002 from Newport News Shipbuilding with 38 years of service. He was an active member of Hampton Baptist Church for over 50 years where he lovingly served as a deacon, taught Sunday School and served on various committees. Bob was a generous and caring person who was always willing to help when needed. He never lost the joy of his inner child. Bob's dog Moxie was always a playmate and provided extra affection and comfort during his illness. His biggest toys were his 58 MGA sports car and his tractor. He was the ultimate do-it-yourselfer. His many interests included classic cars, metalworking, geology, archaeology, photography, landscaping, and reading.
He is preceded in death by his older brother, Charles "Robin" Sigler, and his youngest sister, Janice Sigler Gear. He is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Virginia "Jenny", his sons Tracy and Grayson, daughters-in-law, Mary and Kellie, and four grandchildren, Paris, Mars, Ixa and Oli. Bob is also survived by his sister, Jane Burckard, and her husband, William, brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family appreciates Dr. Alberico at Virginia Oncology, Medi Home Hospice and all the medical and support staff who guided Bob through cancer treatment and care. The family is also thankful for all the prayers, kind deeds and support of friends.
On Tuesday, May 3, visitation with the family will be from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m at Hampton Baptist Church, 40 Kings Way, Hampton, Virginia . A Celebration of Life will be held at the church at 7:00 p.m. with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations can be made to one of these charities which were dear to Bob's heart: Hampton Baptist Renovation Fund, Animal Aid Society – Hampton, or Cancer Care Foundation of Tidewater.
